Although, at present, male infertility is almost history, even in the case of azoospermia (total lack of spermatozoa in the ejaculate) we can get spermatozoa by the biopsy of the testicle, there are other cases in which semen donation can be essential.

For these cases we count on a semen bank with samples from donors. These samples have to exceed some minimum requirements:

  • Be donated by a person legally of age (between 18-35)
  • Neither suffer from nor be a carrier of sexually transmitted diseases
  • Neither suffer from nor be a carrier of hereditary transmitted diseases
  • Have a normal intelligence coefficient
  • Have a minimum spermatic quality (40 million spermatozoa/ml)

Selection of donors is done through the following steps:

  1. Personal interview with donor, where the process is explained
  2. Analysis of semen collected in the Clinic
  3. Blood analysis
  4. Collection of a minimum of five samples, with three days abstinence
before each being obtained, the Clinic being the place where samples are
      taken
  5. Freezing of semen
  6. Six months afterwards: another blood analysis is made
  7. If all these tests are satisfactory, semen can be used for assisted
      reproductive techniques.

Donor must sign a document where he gives his consent to use his semen for assisted reproduction, so as to assume inherent anonymity in the same.

The beneficiary patients will also remain in anonymity.

Semen donation is not rewarded, although donor is compensated economically for suffered inconveniences.
